Open letter to Governor Schweitzer and the alleged Montana Film Commission. i dont see you guys doing much for film makers in Montana

What we have seen in Montana is a majority white population that has many people totally disregarding its natural environment and has put a kibosh on racial equality.

A state with many problems, An impoverished native American population, A ridiculously high rate of Alcohol, Suicide and drug abuse. Too many children being killed by drunk drivers.
Places like the university of Montana and its TV Production partners hiring unqualified people to shoot their home football games. Giving the audience a less than professional look on the screen and monitors. Payment to news/sports Photgs that is chump change.

If you are not going to present a professional environment you are not going to attract professional projects, TV series or major film productions.

Don't get me wrong, Montana is beautiful and has an amazing amount of activities for all four seasons. My favorite is camping and hiking. You have many famous people living here in Montana. You have Connie Chung and Husband Maury Povich who are household names and faces. You have many film and TV stars. I am sure they would contribute time to an effort to promote Montana.

Just this week Macy's in Missoula announced they are closing? Lack of business!

Macy's is an anchor in every big city, Their Missoula store closing means there are no fashion giants in Missoula, Montana. It has become another dying downtown where liberal feel it is more important to support just local businesses. What big businesses bring to a town is jobs, taxes, an anchor for the downtown shopping community and funds for not for profit organizations.

Starbucks downtown also closed it's doors recently, as well as many other businesses. More downtown Businesses will close because of the closing of Macy's Department Store. As a native New Yorker I can't believe a town would not support a Macy's type store. A not so hip strip is downtown Missoula.

All you can drink bars that cater to the student population also do not help the downtown area. What we see is an increase in Traffic accidents and possibly tragedy and a public display that is not positive for the community.

Montana with it's abundant native American population should be attracting more entertainment jobs in film and television. The reservations present an opportunity for film makers and for the reservation to increase employment and visibility .

You also have to cultivate more opportunities for home grown talent . That money should not be expected to come from so called stimulus packages with strings attached from politicians.

The money should be coming from businesses big and small to increase visibility in the arts in Montana.

Funny, these shop local people do not have any problem going to a movie theatre or red box and plunking down their money to see films made in 49 other states.

The current plan is not doing much to create opportunities in Montana. the answer is not in Liberal ideas. The answer is in capitalist solutions. It is in reinvesting money that creates more money, not a stimulas that creates more wasteful spending and a larger
deficit for our children.

Best Of Luck
